If you want to study A level Music or A level Music Technology, why not take a course at the East Sussex Academy of Music (ESAM)?

Where would I study?

Courses are run by East Sussex Music Service in partnership with Sussex Downs College, the sixth form college in Lewes.

You will get all the usual benefits such as using the student welfare services, the Learning Centre and ICT facilities. You can also get involved with college sports teams and join the National Union of Students (NUS).

Applications are made via Sussex Downs College. The Academy will then ask you to attend an audition and interview. Don’t worry, it’s friendly and not scary and designed to help you find out if this is the right place for you to study.

Courses

In the first year of study, you complete an AS level course. In the second year, you complete an A2 level course. Together they combine to become an A level qualification.

You can study:

• AS Music
• A2 Music
• AS Music Technology
• A2 Music Technology
• Diploma in Pre Professional Music (awarded by NOCN, a 2-year course)
• A full range of instrumental and vocal tuition leading to exams offered by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity Guildhall and Rock School.

Performing in public is a really important part of training to be a musician. You can perform at all levels and groups include:

• ESAM Choir
• Academy Voices
• ESAM Concert Wind Band
• ESAM Orchestra
• Pre-Professional Small Ensembles – for example string quartet or jazz combo.

Concerts and recitals

There are three large scale concerts per year, three Pre-Professional Ensembles concerts per year and lots of opportunities to play solo coursework recitals.
