Training courses for over 16s in East Sussex


Are you 16 or over, not in school or college and wondering what to do next? Here are some training courses that can help you get the skills and confidence to move forward .

  • Do you want help with what to do after the summer?

If the answers are yes, then the summer programme at Sussex Downs College, might be just the thing.

You can have a go at learning new skills, doing activities and vocational tasters. You will develop skills which will prepare you for work, training, apprenticeships or college.

The team will help you to find a place at college, talk about apprenticeships and look for work.

You will have your travel paid, a breakfast club and have the chance to earn bonuses.

Apply for the Coach Sussex Bursary

The Coach Sussex Bursary is targeting coaches delivering sport across the county. The bursary will provide coaches with the opportunity to complete a level 1 or 2 coaching qualification, funding 75% of the course cost, up to £150 for a level 1 and £200 for a level 2.

Deadline for applications is Friday 30th November 2012.

From horticulture to hairdressing, there are lots of different On2 courses in East Sussex for 16 to 18 year olds. An On2 course will help you develop skills and confidence to move on to work or further training. They are run in different venues across the county. Take a look what's on offer:

The Prince’s Trust Team Programme in East Sussex

Are you aged between 16 and 25 and not in employment or education? Give your life a kick start and join the 12 week Prince’s Trust Team programme! You’ll improve your confidence, gain new skills and qualifications and meet new people. It’s free, you won’t lose your benefits and you’ll get the chance to:

  • work on a community project
  • spend a week away on an action-packed team building residential course
  • complete a two week work placement
  • write a great CV plus practise your interview skills
  • give a speech at your final presentation, and much more!

Location

Courses take place in Eastbourne, Newhaven and Hastings.

Dates

Courses run Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm. The next course dates are:

Level 2 Events Management course with DV8 Brighton

Are you passionate about music and events? Then join our free events management course for 16-19 year olds who are not in education or training. You will work with one of Sussex's top festival producers to create a high-profile music and media event in a Brighton nightclub this summer. You’ll gain skills in:

  • marketing
  • budgeting
  • project management
  • live music production, and more.

Work placements available with real creative employers
 and no experience necessary.

Opt in Plus programme in Eastbourne and Newhaven

In this 12 hour week programme you will work in a small group on creative, sports and personal and social development projects, to help you reach your full potential. There will also be regular off site activities and we will cover your travel costs plus give you breakfast!

DV8 On2 Creative and Media courses in Bexhill and Ringmer

If you're aged between 16 and 18 and love being creative then a DV8 On2 foundation learning course could be perfect for you. DV8 offer foundation learning courses in:

  • Fashion
  • Media-mix
  • Music technology, and
  • Performing arts.

There is a free minibus service to get you to the course, and you could receive up to £100 for completing it too.
